Hard to believe that coconut oil is one of the world’s most weight loss friendly fats, but it’s true and studies have proved it.


So, what makes it special? Well, this special oil contains a unique combination of fatty acids with powerful effects on metabolism. We haven’t always knew this, but within the last few years, studies have shown us what coconut oil can do to boost your metabolism.

Coconut Oil is High In Triglycerides, Fatty Acids That Boost Metabolism


When we think of coconut oil, it’s no secret that we usually don’t associate it to weight loss. However, this oil is worlds apart different when compared to other fats in our diet.


While many foods contain fatty acids, including coconut oil, the big difference is the type of fatty acids that are found in these foods. Coconut oil contains what is known as “medium-chain” fatty acids while unhealthy foods often contain “long-chain” fatty acids.


Confused yet? Don’t feel bad, let me explain.


Medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) are triglycerides whose fatty acids have an aliphatic tail of 6–12 carbon atoms.


The fatty acids found in MCTs are called medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs). Like all triglycerides, MCTs are composed of a glycerol backbone and three fatty acids. In the case of MCTs, 2 or 3 of the fatty acid chains attached to glycerol are medium-chain in length.


Well, that’s the terminology and definition of MCFAs and MCTs. But enough with the science, let’s tone this back down so you can relate.


Bottom line, medium-chain fatty acids allow you to gain less weight and body fat. On top of that, some research suggest less fat is stored in medium-chain fatty acids. Other studies suggest that coconut oil reduces your appetite. So adding it to your diet is a great idea and the results have been amazing.

How Much Coconut Oil Do I Need

Now, one important question remains. How much coconut oil do you need to reap the benefits?


One teaspoon? Two teaspoons? Three?


To be honest, there’s no magical number on coconut oil. Some do suggest 1-2 teaspoons a day. Others suggest at least 3 teaspoons.


My approach, I use coconut oil when I can. I bake with it, I add it to my tea. I add it to my smoothies, I add it when I’m juicing, I literally use it when I can.


The main importance, you need to start using it today. Coconut oil is not going to be a miracle worker. However, with great eating and good workouts, you’re going to see better results.
